Conservatives Discuss Impeaching Bush & Cheney

Remember, an invertebrate Congress…

Reality as the Dems won’t see it…

July 12, 2007

The Republicans are not as bad off as the Democrats would like to think. Bush isn’t going to change his mind, the Republicans are not going to jump ship and because the Democrats are utterly failing in this political game, the American people aren’t seeing the Iraq policy as a failure of the Republicans or right-wing ideology; unfortunately they see it as Bush’s failure and nothing more.

The Republicans, save a very few moderates, are certainly not going to go back on 5 years of tough talking rhetoric and what they (and some Democrats) have built up as the “central front on the war on terror.” What Democrats have failed to recognize is that Republicans are at their fundamental root directed by a lust for power. They will do anything to have and keep it; even if that means the utter destruction of every civil liberty and the very constitution they claim to hold so dear. For them the ends always justify the means. They won’t give one inch. Because the Dems haven’t figured this out (they still think they can sway them through political pressure) there is no chance for a change in Iraq policy until possibly after the 2008 elections.

God forbid a Republican wins the presidency and/or control of the House and/or Senate, which by the way, is still a very real possibility. Remember, Bush has a horrendous approval rating; the Republicans on the other hand don’t (no more than the Democrats) because the Dems have failed to equate Bush’s failings with a systemic problem with right-wing ideology. With all the damage that the Republicans have caused to this country the elections of 2008 should be a slam dunk, but they won’t and who knows, we could still be having this same conversation another trillion dollars, thousands of lives and 5 more years later in the year 2012. That’s a higher probability scenario than many Democrats apparently want to accept, as its clear that they’ve given up on the only sure fire Congressional way to end this war, by cutting off its funding. On the other hand, if they fail to begin the extraction of our forces by 2008, the public will hold them accountable, as they were given a majority for that purpose and the power lusting Republicans (unlike the Democrats) will surely be able to use that failure against them.
